Surf Camp Waivers: One Signature Trail from Booking to Check-Out

RidgeHQ Team•October 21, 2026•2 min read

A surf camp guest books a week that includes lessons, board hire and a bed. Each of those comes with risk, and the paperwork has to follow the guest, not the booking form.

A Camp Week Is Several Products

Camp packages bundle accommodation and gear, often with add-ons such as transfers. Lessons, rentals and rooms sit on one calendar. That is exactly where loose paperwork goes wrong: a waiver signed on arrival, filed by hand, against a booking someone later changes.

Waivers Are Part of the Booking

In RidgeHQ, waivers are built in rather than sold as a separate add-on. Waiver requirements attach to products, and every participant on a booking completes the waiver with a typed e-signature before checkout can be submitted. A group of four produces four signed records.

Each signature is stored with the exact text the guest agreed to, their answers, a content hash and the signing device. If you later edit the template, earlier signatures still show what that guest signed. Waiver records are protected by database-level row-level security like the rest of your data.

Questions That Fit the Guest

Waiver templates support conditional questions: a follow-up appears only when an earlier answer calls for it, for example a swimming-confidence question for someone who has never surfed. A health questionnaire needs separate health-data consent, is visible only to senior roles, and every read is audited.

Returning Guests and Renewals

A template can carry a validity window, so a signature stays current for a set number of months, then shows as expiring or expired. When a guest needs to sign or renew outside checkout, staff can capture it at the desk or email a single-use renewal link that expires after seven days.

On the Day

Staff check guests in from the session roster, and guests can check in everyone on their confirmed booking by scanning a per-booking QR code. QR-linked waiver signing is not built yet and is on the roadmap; today guests sign at checkout, by renewal link, or with staff at the desk.

Key takeaways

  • Waivers are built in and enforced per participant with a typed e-signature before checkout.
  • Conditional questions, validity windows and renewal links suit multi-day camps and returning guests.
  • Health answers need separate consent, are restricted to senior roles, and every read is audited.
  • Staff check-in and guest QR check-in are live; QR-linked signing is planned.
